Monument Mountain Reservation, 4 mi. n. on US 7, covers 503 acres. The 1,642-foot Monument Mountain, memorialized by poet William Cullen Bryant, provides a sweeping view. Nathaniel Hawthorne first met Herman Melville on a hike and picnic on Monument Mountain in 1850. Hiking trails are available. Picnicking is permitted.
