The Mount, Edith Wharton's Home, at 2 Plunkett St. at the s. jct. of US 7 and SR 7A, is a 42-room mansion built in 1902 by writer Edith Wharton, the first woman novelist to win a Pulitzer Prize for fiction and an authority on architecture, interior design and gardens. The estate consists of formal flower gardens, woodland trails, a Georgian Revival stable and a mansion with restored rooms. Wharton's personal 2,600-volume library is on view. Seasonal programs are offered.

Guided tours are available. Food is available. Time: Allow 2 hours minimum.
