Borderland State Park is at 259 Massapoag Ave. on the Easton-Sharon border. Once the country estate of Blanche Ames, an artist and suffragist, and her botanist husband, Oakes, the site encompasses the family's three-story, 20-room stone mansion, built in 1910, as well as more than 20 miles of wooded trails. Hiking, horseback riding, ice-skating and a number of other recreational activities can be enjoyed on the lovely 1,772-acre expanse, which was acquired by the commonwealth in 1971. A visitor center offers printed trail maps, exhibits about the Ames family, educational programming and special events. Guided tours are available. Pets on leash are allowed. Recreational activities are permitted. Picnicking is permitted.

Hours: Grounds daily 8 a.m.-dusk. Mansion tours are given the third Sun. of the month 1-3, May-Oct.
