Mass Audubon's Wachusett Meadow Wildlife Sanctuary is .7 mi. w. on SR 62, then 1 mi. n. to 113 Goodnow Rd. The 1,200-acre sanctuary incorporates landscapes ranging from gentle pastures to the rugged foothills of Mount Wachusett. Beaver ponds are home to river otters, wood ducks and herons, and the meadows offer protection to more than 100 species of nesting birds. Twelve miles of hiking trails allow for walks through wetlands, meadows and woodland habitats and to the 1,300-foot summit of Brown Hill. Pets are not permitted.
