I particularly like the sophisticated and romantic feel at this updated inn, which has gas fireplaces, two-person walk-in showers and soaking tubs.

Massive ionic columns define the front porch of this restored 1820’s mansion with grounds shaded by mature trees of equally impressive stature that back onto a 100-acre nature reserve with trails. Rooms are outfitted with rich Ethan Allen furnishings, pillowtop mattresses, soft triple sheeting, high-end Molten Brown bath amenities and TV’s with Roku media streaming. A full cooked-to-order breakfast is offered each morning along with a 24-hour coffee and tea station on each floor. This inn is just a short walk to the village antique shops, art galleries, first-class restaurants and museums. It's also a 5-minute stroll to the lake and beach. Welcome trays—with complimentary treats that changes often but may include chocolates, mini chip bags and granola bars—are left in each room.
