J. Millard Tawes Historical Museum at 3 Ninth St. at the Somers Cove Marina reveals local history through exhibits related to the Chesapeake Bay and its watermen, the relationship between the colonists and the Native Americans, the oyster and crab industry, and the history of decoy carving and painting. The late Gov. J. Millard Tawes as well as decoy carver brothers Lem and Steve Ward are profiled in some of the exhibits. A guided walking tour of the port area, which includes a stop at a crab and oyster processing facility, is offered by appointment.

Guided tours also can be arranged by appointment to the J. Millard Tawes Library (Gov. Tawes' childhood home) and the Ward Brothers Workshop. Time: Allow 30 minutes minimum for the museum.
