Nickels-Sortwell House

Nickels-Sortwell House, 121 Main St. (US 1), was built by prominent Maine shipmaster Capt. William Nickels and later owned by Alvin Sortwell, a former mayor of Cambridge, Mass. Guided tours take visitors through the 1807 house, which contains the Sortwell family's Colonial Revival-style furnishings. An elliptical staircase is illuminated by a third-floor skylight.
