The Birmingham Museum, 556 W. Maple Rd. at jct. Southfield Rd., features a period-furnished mid-19th-century historic house and a second house for changing museum exhibits in a beautifully landscaped park. Guided tours of the 1822 John West Hunter House, the oldest house in Birmingham, reveal furnishings representative of the 1820s-80s. Visitors can tour the exhibits at the 1928 Allen House next door on their own. This house belonged to the city's first mayor and showcases a 1920s kitchen and a 1929 Flint Faience storybook tile fireplace in addition to other displays about Birmingham history.
