W. K. Kellogg Experimental Forest, 7060 N. 42nd St., is part of the W.K. Kellogg Biological Station. Since 1931 this area has been transformed from 283 acres of poor farmland into a 716-acre research and forest management demonstration site. The forest is made up of 150 tree species; the nearly 1.5-mile dirt/gravel Tree ID Trail introduces 31 of them.
More than 15 miles of hiking, jogging, mountain biking, horseback riding and cross-country ski trails are on the grounds. Bow hunting, trout fishing and picnicking also are permitted.
Pet friendly (call for restrictions/fees.). Picnicking is permitted. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
