Bear Cave is 4 mi. n. on Red Bud Tr. to 4085 Bear Cave Rd. The 150-foot-long tufa rock cave is accessible by a 40-foot winding stairway. A taped narration plays continuously, guiding visitors past unique geological formations, including the 250,000-year-old Kansan Boulder. The cave was part of the Underground Railroad and a movie location for the 1903 film “The Great Train Robbery.” The cave maintains a constant temperature of 58 F; suitable clothing is advised.
Portions of walkways are narrow, puddles can form when there has been heavy rain, and visitors should be aware that the cave contains bats.
