Sanilac Petroglyphs Historic State Park is 3.9 mi. e. on SR 81, 4 mi. n. on SR 53 (Van Dyke Rd.), 4 mi. e. on W. Bay City Forestville Rd., then .5 mi. s. to 8251 Germania Rd. The park contains the Sanilac Petroglyphs, a series of Native American rock carvings on sandstone. The 300- to 1,000-year-old carvings consist of figures that resemble animals, birds and humans. A mile-long nature trail winds around the park.
Park entry requires a Recreation Passport (valid for 1 year and allows entry into Michigan state parks) $11 (per private in-state vehicle); $5 (per in-state motorcycle); $31 (per private out-of-state vehicle). Nonresident single-day pass $9 (per private out-of-state vehicle).
Hours: Park open daily 8 a.m.-10 p.m. Petroglyph site open Wed.-Sun. 10-5, Memorial Day-Labor Day.
