Edsel & Eleanor Ford House is 1.5 mi. e. from I-94 Vernier/Eight Mile exit, then 1 mi. n. on Lake Shore Rd. The 60-room house, styled after houses in the Cotswold area of England, was built 1926-29 by the Ford Motor Co. executive and his wife. The estate and landscaped grounds were created to accommodate their family and an extensive collection of fine and decorative arts. Twenty of the rooms are shown on guided tours that begin with a 15-minute video presentation in the Activities Center. The Behind the Scenes Tour includes the attic, tunnels and basement. The Premium House Tour explores some additional special places. Guided tours are available. Food is available. Time: Allow 2 hours minimum.
