Historic Charlton Park Village Museum and Recreation Area is 2 mi. s. on SR 37, then 4 mi. e. on SR 79, following signs. The 300-acre complex includes a re-created turn-of-the-20th-century rural Midwestern village and a recreation area with nature trails, picnic areas, playgrounds, a beach and boat launch. The village contains nearly two dozen buildings—a general store, hardware store, stagecoach inn, one-room school, church, town hall and residences—that have been moved to the site. Farm implements are housed in a separate building. The museum hosts a slate of changing exhibits.
Picnicking is permitted.
Village, museum, beach and recreation area free. Admission charged for special events.
Hours: Village and museum daily 9-4, Memorial Day-Labor Day. Schedule may be extended to mid-Oct. (weather permitting); phone to confirm. Recreation area daily 8 a.m.-9 p.m., Memorial Day-Labor Day; phone for off-season schedule.
