The Cross in the Woods is 1 mi. w. of I-75. Said to be the world’s largest wood-and-bronze crucifix, the 55-foot-high cross is made from one California redwood tree and features a 7-ton bronze figure of Christ attached; the entire structure weighs 14 tons. The cross is set atop a 15-foot-high mound. The 13-acre site has an outdoor church, flower gardens and several shrines. A museum features more than 525 nun and priest dolls dressed in the traditional habits of 217 different religious orders.
