The Shrine of the Snowshoe Priest is at jct. US 41 and Lambert Rd. The six-story structure includes a 35-foot-tall brass statue featuring Bishop Frederic Baraga, a Catholic priest who moved to the Great Lakes region in 1830 and devoted his life to Native Americans. He earned his nickname because he traveled by snowshoe up to 700 miles to visit the tribes. The statue overlooks Keweenaw Bay.
