Big Sable Point Lighthouse is within Ludington State Park, 8 mi. n. at 8800 W. SR 116. Visitors reach the black-and-white banded lighthouse, completed in 1867, by way of a 1.5-mile beach hike that begins near the state park headquarters. The 112-foot brick structure was clad in steel plates in the early 1900s, giving it a distinctive ribbed look. Visitors can climb up to the lantern room for sweeping views of Lake Michigan, Hamlin Lake and the surrounding state park.
