This historic 1887 hotel sits on beautifully landscaped grounds overlooking the Straits of Mackinac. Pay careful attention to your packing list because a dress-code policy goes into effect at 6 pm. Decorated in bright, fun and often surprising color combinations, the hotel manages to pull off a whimsical yet elegant summer atmosphere. The impressive landscaping includes a large variety of flower gardens and a serpentine-shaped outdoor pool made famous by movie star Esther Williams. Enjoy a summer cocktail while taking in the impressive view from one of the many rocking chairs on the porch. In addition to showing off your best clothes in the elegant formal dining room, you can listen to the live music offered at afternoon tea and during your after-dinner demitasse in the parlor. An orchestra performance with dancing is offered each evening. Numerous other activities are arranged for your participation. Guest rooms vary in size and appointments, but each one is individually decorated.
