Chippewa Nature Center is at 400 S. Badour Rd. It features more than 1,200 acres of woods, fields, ponds, rivers and wetlands as well as 15 miles of hiking and cross-country skiing trails, including the 3.5-mile paved Chippewa Trail; bicycles also are permitted. A visitor center has an ecosystem gallery with interactive exhibits, a river overlook and a wildlife viewing area. The restored 1870s Homestead Cabin, a one-room log schoolhouse, sugarhouse, wigwam and arboretum also are featured.
Hours: Visitor center open Mon.-Sat. 8-5, Sun. and holidays noon-5. Grounds open daily dawn-dusk. Closed Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve afternoon and Christmas. Allow 2 hours minimum.
