Dow Gardens is next to Midland Center for the Arts at 1809 Eastman Ave.; Whiting Forest is .25 mi. n. on Eastman Ave. On display are 1,800 species of flowers and shrubs on 110 landscaped acres. Features include a children’s garden, rose garden, waterfall and stream, historic bridges, herb garden and seasonal butterfly house. Whiting Forest offers 40 acres of forest, hiking trails, ponds, a covered bridge, a visitor center and an observation tower. Guided tours of Dow Gardens, Whiting Forest or both locations are available by appointment and require a minimum of five people. Tours of the Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow Home (The Pines) also are available. Guided tours are available. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
$5; $1 (ages 6-17 and students with ID). Phone for guided tour prices.
Hours: Gardens daily 9-8:30, Apr. 15-Labor Day; 9-6:30, day after Labor Day-Oct. 31; 9-4:15, rest of year. Whiting Forest daily 10-6, Apr. 15-Labor Day; 10-5, day after Labor Day-Oct. 31; 10-4, rest of year. Closed Jan. 1, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
