Herbert H. Dow Historical Museum is at 3200 Cook Rd. in Heritage Park. Displays chronicle the life of the founder of Dow Chemical Co., Herbert H. Dow, who conducted his pioneering chemical experiments in a nearby shed. The museum is housed in a replica of a gristmill. Exhibits include Dow’s first office and his father’s workshop. A 12-minute video presentation features a miniature image of Dow explaining his contributions to chemistry.
Next to the mill is a replica of the 1890 Midland Chemical Co., Dow’s first manufacturing plant. A laboratory, steam engine and chemical tank help convey the humble beginnings of the Dow Chemical Co.
