Lakeshore Museum Center is at 430 W. Clay Ave. Exhibits highlight the natural and cultural history of the region. Michigan Through the Depths of Time is a 400-million-year journey through Michigan in the making. Other topics showcased include habitats, birds, mammals and fossils. Interactive science and health exhibits also can be explored. Additional Lakeshore Museum Center sites within a few blocks of the center are the Fire Barn Museum (510 W. Clay Ave.), Hackley & Hume Historic Site (484 W. Webster Ave.) and Scolnik House of the Depression Era (504 W. Clay Ave.). Michigan’s Heritage Park (8637 N. Durham Rd. in Whitehall) is an outdoor living-history park that explores 10,000 years of Michigan history.
All sites free except Hackley & Hume Historic Site and Michigan’s Heritage Park, which are $5-$10.
Hours: Center Mon.-Fri. 9:30-4:30, Sat. 10-4, May-Oct.; Mon.-Fri. 9:30-4:30, Sat. noon-4, rest of year. Other sites open Mon. and Thurs.-Sat. 10-4, Sun. 1-4, May-Oct. Closed major holidays.
