Leelanau State Park is at 15310 N. Lighthouse Point Rd. At the northern end of the Leelanau Peninsula, Leelanau State Park offers visitors excellent views of both Lake Michigan and Grand Traverse Bay. The park is divided between rocky Lighthouse Point, location of the Grand Traverse Lighthouse, and a separate, larger piece of land nearby with a small lake and tall sand dunes along the Lake Michigan shore. More than 8 miles of trails—perfect for hiking or cross country skiing—wind through rolling, heavily forested land to the beach and a beach overlook perched atop a bluff. Recreational activities are permitted. Camping is permitted. Picnicking is permitted. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
Park entry requires a Recreation Passport (valid for 1 year and allows entry into Michigan state parks) $11 (per private in-state vehicle); $5 (per in-state motorcycle); $31 (per private out-of-state vehicle). Nonresident single-day pass $9 (per private out-of-state vehicle).
Hours: Daily dawn-dusk.
