Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park is at 33303 Headquarters Rd. The 60,000-acre park is popular for camping, skiing and backpacking; natural history programs are offered. Lake of the Clouds Scenic Overlook, on an escarpment above the lake at the western end of SR 107, offers an excellent view. Panoramas also can be enjoyed from Summit Peak. A .75-mile boardwalk along Presque Isle River passes several waterfalls. Interpretive programs are available in summer; phone ahead for schedule. More than 90 miles of hiking and cross-country skiing trails run throughout the park. Recreational activities are permitted. Camping is permitted.
Park entry requires a Recreation Passport (valid for 1 year and allows entry into Michigan state parks) $11 (per private in-state vehicle); $31 (per private out-of-state vehicle). Nonresident single-day pass $9 (per private out-of-state vehicle).
Hours: Park open daily 24 hours. Visitor center open daily 10-6, late May to mid-Oct.
