Steam Railroading Institute’s Visitor Center & Museum is at 405 S. Washington St., just n. of Corunna Ave. Tours, videos, model railroad exhibits and steam railroad memorabilia contribute to the visitor’s experience. The visitor center is home to the Pere Marquette 1225 steam locomotive, prototype for the animated film “The Polar Express,” and a collection of rolling stock and cabooses. Guided tours are available. Time: Allow 30 minutes minimum.
Museum $5; free (ages 0-4 and to all with train ticket purchase).
Hours: Wed.-Sun. 10-4, Memorial Day-Labor Day; phone for schedule, rest of year. Phone ahead to confirm schedule.
