Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum is at 18335 N. Whitefish Point Rd. Artifacts and pictures chronicle Great Lakes shipping disasters. A memorial to the Edmund Fitzgerald features the ship’s bell, and the Shipwreck Theater offers a short video presentation about the Edmund Fitzgerald. Visitors also can tour the Lifesaving Surfboat House, which profiles the late 19th- and early 20th-century U.S. Lifesaving Service, the organization that became the Coast Guard. Equipment and a replica of a boat can be seen. A boardwalk extends to Lake Superior.
