Whitefish Point Light Station is at the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum at jct. SR 123 and Whitefish Point Rd. The restored light station began operation in 1849 and is the oldest working lighthouse on Lake Superior. Overlooking the graveyard of the Great Lakes, it marks the critical turning point for all ships leaving and entering Lake Superior. Visitors can tour the restored 1861 lighthouse keeper’s quarters; it houses artifacts and period furnishings. Exhibits detail the stories of the former keepers and their families.
Guided tours are available.
