Father Marquette National Memorial is .2 mi. n.w. of the bridge via US 2; exit in the Marquette unit of Straits State Park. The memorial honors Jacques Marquette, the French explorer who established the state’s first European settlements at Sault Ste. Marie and St. Ignace. Interpretive trails through the 52-acre park provide panoramic views of the straits and Mackinac Bridge. Picnicking is permitted. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
Memorial free. Park entry requires a Recreation Passport (valid for 1 year and allows entry into Michigan state parks) $11 (per private in-state vehicle); $5 (per in-state motorcycle); $31 (per private out-of-state vehicle). Nonresident single-day pass $9 (per private out-of-state vehicle).
Hours: Park open daily 10-8, Memorial Day-Labor Day.
