House of Culture (Casa de Cultura) is 4 blks. n. of Plaza de Armas on Av. Morelos Norte. This peach-colored, architecturally striking building was salvaged from the ruins of a 350-year-old Carmelite monastery. The central courtyard serves as an open-air theater for drama, dance and music groups, and also provides studio space for artists. Ask about the free monthly brochure that lists upcoming city events.
Within the complex is the Museum of Masks, which displays a collection of ceremonial masks from around the country.
