AAA Editor Notes
Hill Annex Mine State Park is off US 169, halfway between Grand Rapids and Hibbing. The park explores the history and methods of iron ore mining in northern Minnesota. Beginning at the clubhouse visitor center, 90-minute bus tours descend into a 500-foot-deep open-pit mine. Visitors also can take a historical tour by bus or embark on a fossil-hunting tour of the pit.
Guided tours are available. Picnicking is permitted.
