The Depot is at 506 W. Michigan St. Housed in an 1892 railroad depot, the St. Louis County Heritage and Arts Center features living-history exhibits, four museums and Depot Square, a re-creation of Duluth as it appeared during the second decade of the 20th century.
The Lake Superior Railroad Museum houses a large collection of railroad cars and locomotives dating from 1860 to the present, including the first locomotive to come to Minnesota and one of the largest and most powerful steam locomotives ever built. Veterans Memorial Hall, within the Saint Louis County Historical Society, has rotating exhibits and displays about the logging industry.
The Forest History room recounts the early years of the lumber industry through real-life stories and videos. Veterans Hall contains artifacts from wars in which the United States has engaged. Many arriving settlers were processed in the Immigration Waiting Room, which has been preserved to look as it originally did. The Duluth Art Institute features contemporary works by regional, national and international artists.
