Fort Ridgely State Park is 6 mi. s. off SR 4, following signs. Within the park is a historic site encompassing a police station and the ruins of Fort Ridgely, built in 1853. Interpretive markers describe the Dakota Conflict of 1862. The park offers trails for hiking, horseback riding, snowmobiling and snowshoeing. Other activities include stream and pond fishing as well as a nine-hole golf course. Tube rentals are offered at a sliding hill. The park does not provide horses for trail riding; horse rentals are available at a nearby equestrian center. Pets on leash are allowed. Recreational activities are permitted. Camping is permitted. Picnicking is permitted. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
A $5 state park permit is required to enter the park. Interpretive center $6; $5 (ages 65+, active duty military with ID and college students with ID); $4 (ages 6-17). Golf course fee $9 Mon.-Fri., $13 Sat.-Sun.
Hours: Park open daily 8 a.m.-10 p.m. Historic site open Fri.-Sat. 10-5, Sun. noon-5, Memorial Day-Labor Day.
