Frontenac State Park is 1 mi. n. on CR 2. On the north end of Lake Pepin, this 2,300-acre park is a gathering place for migratory birds. Watch for bald eagles from the vantage point of the park's scenic overlooks. Trails are used by hikers in summer, snowmobilers and cross-country skiers in winter. There's also a winter sliding hill and year-round camping. Pets on leash are allowed. Recreational activities are permitted. Camping is permitted. Picnicking is permitted.
A $5 state park permit is required to enter the park; a $25 annual permit also is available. Drive-in campsites $31 electric, $23 non-electric, first weekend in May to mid-Oct.; $25 electric, $17 non-electric, rest of year.
Hours: Grounds daily 8 a.m.-10 p.m. Park office open Mon.-Thurs. 9-4, Fri.-Sat. 9-9, Sun. 9-5, early May-late Oct.; Mon.-Fri. variable hours, Sat.-Sun. 9-5, rest of year. Phone ahead to confirm schedule.
