Forestville/Mystery Cave State Park is 4 mi. s. of SR 16 on CR 5, then 2 mi. e. on CR 118 to the main entrance at 21071 CR 118. The 3,000-acre park encompasses forests of oak, basswood, ironwood and sugar maple interspersed with tall-grass prairie. Historic Forestville is a living-history village depicting 19th-century farm life. The park also offers 17 miles of cross-country skiing, hiking and horse trails.
Mystery Cave is Minnesota's longest cave system. Guided 1-hour tours allow visitors to see stalactites, stalagmites, flowstone and two cave pools. On summer weekends a 1-hour Flashlight Tour and a 2-hour Geology Tour are offered, both of which explore less developed areas of the cave; participants must be able to carry a lantern, climb numerous steps and walk along uneven paths. Concrete walkways line the main route. The cave temperature is a constant 48 F; warm clothing and sturdy walking shoes are recommended. Sandals are not permitted.
Pets on leash are allowed. Recreational activities are permitted. Camping is permitted. Picnicking is permitted.
