Lynn Meadows Discovery Center is 3.4 mi. e. on US 90 (Beach Blvd./Beach Dr.) from jct. US 49, then .1 mi. n. to 246 Dolan Ave. Housed in a renovated 1915 elementary school, this museum educates youngsters via a number of diverse interactive settings. Kids can sort through seafood and vegetables at a grocery store; operate a crane at The Port; check in at the Dolan Avenue Depot and role play in a train dining car; see life through the eyes of others at the What It's Like to Be Me exhibit; prevent spinal cord injuries at the ThinkFirst Safety exhibit; and learn about construction basics at Kid's Street, a mini cul-de-sac with four scaled-down houses.
Highlights of the 6-acre, oak-shaded grounds include Bear Creek's cabin and wooden train and Tree House Village, which offers structures that can be climbed by visitors of any age. A variety of special events, theater presentations and workshops are offered throughout the year.
