Mississippi Museum of Art is at 380 S. Lamar St. Established more than a century ago, this museum's permanent collection comprises more than 5,000 works of art, making it one of the state's largest. Highlights include African-American folk art, photographs and works by Mississippi natives Walter Anderson, William Hollingsworth, Marie Hull, Eudora Welty and Karl Wolfe. Traveling exhibitions are presented regularly. The Art Garden is a 1.2-acre green space featuring outdoor installations. Food is available Tues.-Fri. 11-2. Guided tours are available. Food is available. Time: Allow 2 hours minimum.
Garden free. Main exhibits $12; $10 (ages 60+); $6 (ages 6-18 and college students with ID). An additional fee may be charged for special exhibitions.
Hours: Garden open daily dawn-dusk. Museum open Tues.-Sat. 10-5, Sun. noon-5. Hours may be extended during special exhibitions. Closed major holidays. Phone ahead to confirm schedule.
