State Capitol is on the grounds bordered by High, Mississippi, President and West sts. This dignified Beaux Arts-style structure, built 1901-03, houses the executive and legislative branches of state government. The Hall of Governors is lined with portraits. Visitors can view public areas on their own or take a guided tour.
The Mississippi State Legislature meets each year for a 90-day session, beginning the first Tuesday after the first Monday in January, except during the first year of the new term, when it meets for 125 days. The Capitol is open on holidays during session.
Guided tours are available. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
