Grand Gulf Military Park is 7 mi. n.w. across the Bayou Pierre Bridge. The site of the shelling of Confederate forts Cobun and Wade by Union ironclad gunboats, the 400-acre park contains the forts, a cemetery, an observation tower and several restored buildings. A museum in the visitor center displays photographs, scale models and items commemorating local history. Pet friendly (call for restrictions/fees.). Camping is permitted. Picnicking is permitted.
Park and museum $3; $2 (ages 60+); $1 (students in grades K-12).
Hours: Grounds daily dawn-dusk. Museum daily 8-5. Closed Jan. 1, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Allow 30 minutes minimum.
