Vicksburg National Cemetery is at the northern end of Vicksburg National Military Park at Tour Stop 8 and can be entered via Connecting and Union aves. Within its 116 acres are the graves of nearly 17,000 Civil War Union soldiers and more than 1,200 veterans of later wars. Some 5,000 Confederate dead were buried in the “Soldier's Rest” plot in Vicksburg's city cemetery, Cedar Hill Cemetery.
