Stars and Stripes Museum/Library is at 17377 Stars and Stripes Way, adjacent to the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery. It preserves the legacy of a newspaper that has bridged servicemen and women and their families through five major wars. Ten Union soldiers from Illinois, using the vacated press of The Bloomfield Herald, published the first issue of The Stars and Stripes—which they named after the American flag—on Nov. 9, 1861.
One of those original editions can be seen along with military memorabilia and displays pertaining to the many notable journalists who have served as “Stripers.”
