AAA Editor Notes
Boone's Lick State Historic Site is 2.1 mi. w. on SR 187 from jct. SR 87. Two salt springs, or licks, were used at the site by Daniel Boone's sons Daniel and Nathan and two partners 1806-14 to produce salt. The salt was made by heating brine in large iron pots over a furnace; 300 gallons of brine would yield 60 pounds of salt. The licks turned out 500 pounds of salt a day and required four furnaces and up to 20 workers.
Picnicking is permitted.
