Bates County Museum is on Elks Dr., just off Mill St. and old US 71. Eight themed rooms trace the county's history from early pioneer days through the 1970s. Exhibits feature Osage Indian artifacts, items associated with the 1821 Harmony Mission, Civil War and World War II memorabilia and a Bates County timeline. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
$5; $2 (students with ID); free (ages 0-5).
Hours: Tues.-Fri. 9:30-4, Sat. 9:30-noon, Apr.-Oct. Closed July 4 and Labor Day.
