Sophia M. Sachs Butterfly House is off I-64 exit 19B, then 1.3 mi. n.e. on Clarkson Rd./Olive Blvd. (Olive Street Rd.) to 15193 Olive Blvd., within Faust County Park. Hundreds of tropical butterflies representing more than 60 species fly freely within this 8,000-square-foot glass conservatory. A chrysalis exhibit showcases the amazing process of metamorphosis. The exhibit hall features dozens of other living insect and arachnid displays.
Special events are held throughout the year, including Winter Jewels in December and Morpho Mardi Gras in February and March, when thousands of bright blue morpho butterflies, raised in Costa Rica, can be seen flying throughout the tropical conservatory and information about their native environment is shared.
