Silver Mines Recreation Area is 3 mi. s. of SR 72 on SR D to FR 2510, on the St. Francis River in Mark Twain National Forest . At the dam site the river flows between two sheer walls of granite, the remains of the stone dam. The riverbed is strewn with huge boulders. A hiking trail leads to an old silver mine. Camping is permitted mid-March to late October.
