Bushwhacker Museum entrance is at 212 W. Walnut St. This museum chronicles the history of Vernon County with emphasis on the Osage Indians, Border War/Civil War and military, social and business interests. The Bushwhacker Jail, the county jail for a century (1860-1960), interprets the lives of prisoners and law enforcement. The jail is located a block north of the museum; guided tours are available.
Note: The Border War and Civil War displays are undergoing restoration and are due for completion in June 2013 to coincide with the arrival of a Civil War traveling exhibition.
