World Museum of Mining, 155 Museum Way, is on the grounds of the Orphan Girl Mine, which operated 1875-1956. The 50-plus structures on the 44-acre site range from a 100-foot-high headframe to the many buildings of Hell Roarin’ Gulch, an 1890s mining town. Visitors learn about the evolution of mining technology and about the mining town's culture and ethnic history. A 90-minute underground mine tour is offered. Guided tours are available. Picnicking is permitted. Time: Allow 2 hours minimum.
Museum only $8.50; $7.50 (ages 65+); $5 (ages 13-18); $3 (ages 5-17). Museum and underground mine tour $17; $14 (ages 65+); $11 (ages 5-17). Space is limited on the mine tour, so reservations are recommended.
