Tizer Botanic Garden & Arboretum, 38 Tizer Lake Rd., is a test site for high altitude-, cold weather- and drought-tolerant plants for the Denver Botanic Gardens and Colorado State University. Sheltering numerous rare specimens, the nearly 7-acre site intersected by Prickly Pear Creek comprises themed flower gardens, vegetable and herb patches, and a children’s garden. Visitors can stroll along a walking trail traversed by several wooden bridges as they take in the beauty of 550 varieties of specialty conifers, 450 varieties of deciduous trees and shrubs, about 100 types of roses and 100 varieties of clematis.
Special events, including high tea, concerts, guided walks and family-friendly festivals, are offered regularly.
Guided tours are available. Picnicking is permitted.
