Garnet Ghost Town, I-90 e. to exit 109 (Bonner), then 23 mi. e. on SR 200, after mile marker 22 turn s. on Garnet Range Rd. and proceed 11 mi. on gravel road to parking lot. Lost in time, this intact mining town still reflects life as the community knew it at the end of the 19th century. Different from typical mining towns of the era, gold miners were encouraged to bring their families. After the 1930s, the town fell into disrepair and the last resident died in 1947. The remaining buildings, including the Wells Hotel, Davey Store and Kelly Saloon, have been preserved. Picnicking is permitted. Time: Allow 2 hours minimum.
$3; free (ages 0-15).
Hours: Daily 9:30-4:30, Memorial Day-Sept. 30. Phone for schedule rest of year. Although the site is open year-round the roads are generally closed due to snow mid-Dec. to early May.
