AAA Inspector Notes
Founded in 1910 by a purchasing agent for the Milwaukee Railroad, this historic railroad hotel has been restored in a Western theme with wood accents and floors in rich hues. Nicknamed the 'Sac,' this property has spruce beams in the 14-foot ceilings and is decorated in Arts and Crafts style. The large porch has comfortable chairs, perfect for enjoying summer evenings. Did not meet all AAA rating requirements for locking devices in some guest rooms at time of last evaluation on 04/22/2016. Facilities, services, and décor characterize a mid-scale property.

Pros: The shower/tub, the bed, amenities. The young man that helped with our luggage.
Cons: I had requested rooms on the first floor in particular. I had stayed there previously and knew there was no elevator. Was offered a room on the 2nd and 3rd floor. I took the noisy room on the 1st floor and friends took 2nd floor. They enjoyed their room as well.

Pros: This is a beautiful hotel. The historic building has been well maintained. The little extras in the room like bathrobes, earplugs, and bath salts were a pleasant surprise. My children enjoyed exploring the tipi. Also, the champagne at check in was much appreciated after a long day on the road.
Cons: The employees I encountered were pleasant and courteous, however, on more than one occasion, I overhead employees complaining and gossiping about other employees. These were inappropriate conversations to be having within earshot of guests. In my opinion, this was unprofessional, and made me feel uncomfortable.
