Scottish Tartans Museum, 86 E. Main St., depicts the history of the Scottish tartan from its earliest days in A.D. 325. Exhibits delineate the evolution of the kilt, from function to tradition. Displays include tartans and Highland dress from 1700 to the present and a complete registry of all publicly known tartans. Weaving demonstrations also are given, and visitors may view their family tartan by computer in the research library.
