Roanoke Island Festival Park, Home of Elizabeth II, across from the waterfront at 1 Festival Park, explores 400 years of island history. The park's centerpiece is a reproduction of a merchant ship that was part of Sir Walter Raleigh's 1585 voyage to the New World. Interpreters in Elizabethan costume re-create the lives of 16th-century mariners and soldiers. The American Indian Town exhibit has a wide variety of to-scale structures and encourages visitors to explore, build, plant, dance and engage in role-play activities.

The Roanoke Adventure Museum uses interactive exhibits to tell 400 years of Outer Banks history, while the Settlement Site offers demonstrations in woodworking, blacksmithing and leatherworking. “The Legend of Two Path,” a film about the impact of the colonists' arrival on Native American life, is shown several times daily.

Picnicking is permitted. Time: Allow 2 hours minimum.
